If you are interested in the Edge Of The World universe and would like to know more, here is a detailed index of terms and how they contextually fit into the story of EOTW. This list will periodically be updated as more is revealed throughout the story.
Geopolitics and Cultures
Ivestri: A race of scrawny, pointy eared people with large eyes. They hail from the country of Ivestra. Magic users are predominantly Ivestran.
Ivestra: Homeland of the Ivestri, it is quite hilly and home to many temperate forests and much maritime trade. The country has been steeped in an irregular conflict with a separatist movement in the southern provinces of Ivestra. The Uthuran Army has since been occupying the nation with a peacekeeping force.
Uthuran: A race of tall and brawny industrialists with fluffy fur and broad noses. Their Industrial revolution made magic mostly obsolete. Their societies are quite militaristic, where rank and discipline are held with utmost respect.
The Uthuran Republic: The largest nation on the continent and arguably the most powerful, the heartland of all Uthuran people. A resource rich land with swathes of open plains, the Uthuran people where able to swiftly connect the entire country and their neighbours with a robust rail network spanning the entire continent. The trade from which made them one of the wealthiest global powers.
Monnid: A race of people with smooth skin, bristly hair, dark eyes, with a mostly collectivist society. Seasoned travellers and fighters, they are spread throughout the continent and are not uncommon. Many Children of the Sun are Monnid.
Kearth: Homeland of the Monnid people. It is mountainous and rugged with a very low cloud plain, often covering much of the country in fog and mist. Communities are typically small and spread out. Large herds of Raq are a common sight across the open valleys of Kearth, with many “Raqueteers” riding along side them.
Animals
Raq/Raqueteer: A large horned stock animal (very much a horse/cow analogue) with many varieties for Riding, milking, eating, and racing. People who ride these animals are known colloquially as “Raqueteers”
Lyrix: A large cat-like predator animal, commonly found in mountains. They have distinctive pointed studs protruding from their heads for ramming competition and stunning prey.
Procyon: A small raccoon-like animal often found near urban areas.
Religion
Children of the Sun: A very popular religion, while thematically centred on “Sun worship” its primary teachings are that of peace, freedom, self improvement, and collectivism. Sun Children often (but not exclusively) live in monastic communities, usually neighbouring other towns but more often are isolated in hills and mountains. While some find the isolation a way of peacefully separating ones self from the chaotic affairs of the world, many also prefer to live in large towns to better build a sense of a connected and shared community. Smaller isolated monasteries are often preyed upon by Liches.
Magic
Lich: Magicians who have studied and practiced the ability to harvest the souls of other living beings for the purpose of extending their lives. They often prey upon isolated monastic communities as it is the most efficient way to harvest a lot of souls (see chapter 4 page 20).
Anomaly: Referring to the phenomenon of animate objects and matter seemingly coming to life, moving around, and generally being a nuisance and threat. No one is quite sure where they come from or why/how they manifest in the first place. All that is known is that they can happen spontaneously and unpredictably.
Lodestone: A common, highly conductive and magnetic metal that can store vast quantities of electrical energy. They are used as batteries for powering houses, vehicles, machinery, and many other things, including magical artifacts and devices.
The Edge of the World/The Void: A mysterious place where matter struggles to take form, it is the subject of a series of nightmares that plague Seth’s parents and now maybe affecting Seth herself.
